The Royal Academy of Dance
Our Principal and Founder
Miss Jessica Lily Chance, BA (Hons) in Ballet Education, RAD, RTS
Miss Jessica Lily Chance the Principal has had the dream to have her own ballet school since the age of 3. Growing up in Cornwall, Miss Jessica danced at a local ballet school in Helston and danced with Duchy Ballet and Hall for Cornwall Youth Dance for many years. She took part in productions over Cornwall and attended many dance workshops and Summer Schools both in and out of the County. She knew that if she wanted to get the best ballet teacher training, she would need to move out of Cornwall. At the age of 18 Miss Jess moved to London to attend the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) and completed a BA Hons in Ballet Education – one of the only ballet teaching degrees in the world, which has limited spaces each academic year. Miss Jessica is one of the highest trained ballet teachers in Cornwall, with new and fresh training to compliment the ever-changing dance industry. The Royal Academy of Dance produces highly trained ballet and dance teachers who must undertake vigorous training in ballet, developing their own practise, learning ballet repertoire, ballet theory and Miss Jess’ favourite subject, learning how children learn. This degree specialises in training professional teachers rather than dancers, meaning Miss Jess is a very highly qualified Ballet teacher with the Royal Academy of Dance as well as a very experienced ballerina.
Whilst in London Miss Jessica gained a wealth of experience and had the opportunity to work with many influential people within the ballet and dance industry. Miss Jess coached numerous children who gained successful places in Royal Ballet Associates, Birmingham Royal Ballet and London Children’s Ballet Company. Miss Jessica also coached children for their ballet exams and received a 100% pass rate. Miss Jessica also worked underneath Principal Royal Ballet Dancer Alexander Campell and First Soloist Claire Calvert at their Co Owned Ballet School in Kingston.
During her time at the Royal Academy of Dance, Miss Jessica gained knowledge in all RAD Grades with intensive training up to Advanced 2 Female and Male syllabus and has knowledge in Solo Seal examinations. Miss Jessica was also taught Male Advanced 2 by Joshua Tuifa, ex Royal Ballet Soloist. Miss Jess has also had training in Pointe Work and how to safely train dancers for Pre Pointe and Pointe as well as Ballet Repertoire and Pas de Deux dancing.

Miss Neeve Richardson
Contemporary and Lower School Ballet Teacher
I have been dancing since I was 3 years old, beginning at The Nicola Costin Ballet School, where I was trained in RAD ballet. In my early teens I discovered contemporary after joining Theatre Royal Plymouth’s Youth Dance Company. Here I had the exposure to multiple styles of dance and given the opportunity to be a part of various different performances. After continuing my dance training through school, I went on to study Dance & Choreography at Falmouth University, where I recently graduated with a First Class Honours. Here I deepened my knowledge of contemporary, discovered a huge love for improvisation, and began to develop my own personal practice. During my studies, I had opportunities to take part in a multitude of workshops, including Gary Clarke Co, Company Chameleon and The Red Dread House Head. Teaching young people is something that I am very excited for. I hope to bring a focus towards technique and precision, whilst allowing for play and the feeling of joy whilst moving.
Miss Neeve is based at our Penzance Branch

Miss Minnie only started ballet when Steren opened in September 2023, but has fallen in love with the magic of ballet.
Miss Lily has been dancing since a young age and would like to be a ballet teacher herself. The Steren School of Ballet are supporting Miss Lily on this journey!
