About our Ballet School

Established in 2023, the Steren School of Ballet is Cornwall’s newest Royal Academy of Dance Ballet school offering high quality and professional training in ballet and dance. Steren, meaning Star in Cornish, nurtures dancers from as little as 12 weeks introducing tiny dancers to the magic of ballet from the beginning. As dancers progress through the school they will eventually start their Royal Academy of Dance training. All our classes are held at our own bespoke studios in the heart of Camborne, a magical haven where dancers are introduced to the magic of ballet.

Our Principal:

Miss Jessica Lily Chance the Principal has had the dream to have her own ballet school since the age of 3. Growing up in Cornwall, Miss Jessica danced at a local ballet school in Helston and danced with Duchy Ballet and Hall for Cornwall Youth Dance for many years. She took part in productions over Cornwall and attended many dance workshops and Summer Schools both in and out of the County. She knew that if she wanted to get the best ballet teacher training, she would need to move out of Cornwall. At the age of 18 Miss Jess moved to London to attend the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) and completed a BA Hons in Ballet Education – one of the only ballet teaching degrees in the world, which has limited spaces each academic year. Miss Jessica is one of the highest trained ballet teachers in Cornwall, with new and fresh training to compliment the ever-changing dance industry. The Royal Academy of Dance produces highly trained ballet and dance teachers who must undertake vigorous training in ballet, developing their own practise, learning ballet repertoire, ballet theory and Miss Jess’ favourite subject, learning how children learn. This degree specialises in training professional teachers rather than dancers, meaning Miss Jess is a very highly qualified Ballet teacher with the Royal Academy of Dance as well as a very experienced ballerina.

Whilst in London Miss Jessica gained a wealth of experience and had the opportunity to work with many influential people within the ballet and dance industry. Miss Jess coached numerous children who gained successful places in Royal Ballet Associates, Birmingham Royal Ballet and London Children’s Ballet Company. Miss Jessica also coached children for their ballet exams and received a 100% pass rate. Miss Jessica also worked underneath Principal Royal Ballet Dancer Alexander Campell and First Soloist Claire Calvert at their Co Owned Ballet School in Kingston.

During her time at the Royal Academy of Dance, Miss Jessica gained knowledge in all RAD Grades with intensive training up to Advanced 2 Female and Male syllabus and has knowledge in Solo Seal examinations. Miss Jessica was also taught Male Advanced 2 by Joshua Tuifa, ex Royal Ballet Soloist. Miss Jess has also had training in Pointe Work and how to safely train dancers for Pre Pointe and Pointe as well as Ballet Repertoire and Pas de Deux dancing.

Our founder and Principal Miss Jessica Lily Chance is one of Cornwall’s most highly trained ballet and dance teachers with a degree in Ballet Education from the Royal Academy of Dance. The Steren School of Ballet is a registered Royal Academy of Dance ballet school meaning it produces technically correct and safe dancers of the future. Children can participate in examinations if they wish to work their way up the RAD graded syllabus.
